It’s unfortunate that this first post will mostly be bitching.

Oh well…

Twitter. You may use it, you may have never heard of it (like my roommate and his girl friend). The other night I read an article in Sac News & Review titled “Why Twitter Sucks”. Now the article gave me enough reasons to hate twitter, but I’m not gonna hate too much. I would rather point out the dangers of twitter. Such as the impact on communication, increased fan girl/boy mentalities, and in general the dumbing down of the world. The article gave examples of people who have defended Twitter for various reasons, all of them complete bullshit. The only possible use for twitter would be to follow politicians or potential clients. Actually tweeting for one self and trying to get followers, well, in my opinion that’s just pathetic. It’s like begging people to participate in your life from a filtered perspective, and what ever the particular filter may be, it will always only be 140 characters. How the hell am I supposed to tell you anything useful or meaning full in such a small space?

If this isn’t bad enough, Twitter also has the power to ruin credibility. Check out the first thing I read when I got on to Word Press today:

Excerpt from:
How to tweet your way out of a jobA lucky job applicant tweeted the following:

Cisco just offered me a job! Now I have to weigh the utility of a fatty paycheck against the daily commute to San Jose and hating the work.

This tweet caught the attention of Tim Levad, a channel partner advocate for Cisco. To which he responded:

Who is the hiring manager. I’m sure they would love to know that you will hate the work. We here at Cisco are versed in the web.

Ouch! The person who dissed the Cisco offer quickly took their Twitter account private. But Twitter search retained the record.

Given that this would be Cisco employee is a dumb ass, if he had written a blog entry instead of a tweet he may have thought things through a little bit more and not cost himself a good job. I have to commute to work every day and I Am damn thankful for my job. Even if every one at the company I work for tweets.

So it’s tolerance we need for Twitter, and all those poor foolish tweeters. I’ll just have to be on the look out for a Law and Order episode in which the conviction process is either helped or hindered by Twitter. That would be interesting.

That’s all for now…

Hello world!
